Started in 1975: Pioneer of parent-child concert

Japan Philharmonic Orchestra Family Concert was started in 1975 as a pioneer of parent-child concert with the aim of "Delivering the great power that music has to children." The concert is held every year from mid July through early August in the metropolitan areas, and so far more than 1,100,000 children and families have enjoyed this "Introduction" to classical music.

Pietari Inkinen Extends Tenure as Chief Conductor of Japan Philharmonic Orchestra through August 2023

The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to announce a two-year extension of Pietari Inkinen's tenure as JPO Chief Conductor through August 2023.
Having worked jointly since September 2009, when he was first appointed as Principal Guest Conductor, and later as Chief Conductor since September 2016, the maestro and Japan Philharmonic Orchestra have shared more than ten years and will soon start their 12th season together this September.

Japan Philharmonic Orchestra Appoints Kahchun WONG as Principal Guest Conductor

On March 6, 2020, Maestro Wong was to have a big debut with JPO at the Tokyo Subscription Concert with Mahler’s Symphony No.5, however the COVID-19 pandemic took away this precious opportunity at the last minute.

The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra (President & CEO: HIRAI Toshikuni) is delighted to announce that it has appointed the Singaporean conductor Kahchun WONG as Principal Guest Conductor, starting in September 2021. The contract will last two years.
